The Guns of Goncharov

One of the most interesting things about Goncharov is the subtle attention paid to props. Obviously a mafia movie is going to have its fair number of shootouts, particularly when a cache of ammo for the AK-47s Andrei smuggled in plays the part of a macguffin during the opening segment. But what's interesting to me is that props director Pietro Zaccarini is on the record discussing the lengths he took to ensure that in every firefight each side was either armed solely with Soviet firearms or Western produced weapons, although it was never consistent which side would prefer which. Long considered a continuity error that when Goncharov and Umberto first fight the former has a slick Italian Beretta 70 and the latter a near antique Tokarev, only for their sidearms to have apparently swapped between then and their second confrontation, Zaccarini later revealed it was a subtle and impish piece of commentary during a Vanity Fair interview in 2008.

"I wanted to show that the means of violence change hands frequently, sometimes an outside influence, sometimes internal. It is at issue that the weapons are here, less than who has which. Killers are not so much into brand loyalty."

THE DESCRIPTION OF SAINT GIANNA BERETTA MOLLA The Patroness of Doctors, Wives and Unborn Children Feast Day: April 28

Gianna Beretta Molla became a pediatric physician, a wife, a mother and a saint!

She was born in Magenta near Milano, the tenth of Alberto and Maria Beretta’s 13 children. An active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and a leader in the Catholic Action movement, Gianna also enjoyed skiing and mountain climbing. She earned degrees in medicine and surgery from the University of Pavia, eventually specializing in pediatrics. In 1952, Gianna opened a clinic in the small town of Mesero, where she met engineer Pietro Molla.

Shortly before their 1955 marriage, Gianna wrote to Pietro: "Love is the most beautiful sentiment that the Lord has put into the soul of men and women."

In the next four years the Mollas had three children: Pierluigi, Mariolina, and Laura. Two pregnancies following ended in miscarriage.

Early in her final pregnancy, doctors discovered that Gianna had both a child and a tumor in her uterus. She allowed the surgeons to remove the tumor but not to perform the complete hysterectomy that they recommended, which would have killed the child.

Seven months later in April 1962, Gianna Emanuela Molla was born at the hospital in Monza, but post-operative complications resulted in an infection for her mother. The following week Gianna Molla died at home, and was buried in the cemetery of Mesero.

Gianna Emanuela went on to become a physician herself. Gianna Beretta Molla was beatified in 1994 and canonized 10 years later.

Beretta ha celebrato lo scorso 6 dicembre al Vittoriale degli Italiani di Gardone Riviera (Bs), il restauro della pila in pietra del “dare in brocca”. Il simbolo delle tre frecce che colpiscono il bersaglio, con il motto “dare in brocca” ovvero fare centro – colpire il bersaglio, fu realizzato negli anni Trenta dello scorso secolo dal friulano Guido Marussig, su indicazione di Gabriele D’Annunzio. Le 3 frecce racchiuse in altrettanti cerchi rappresentano i 3 colpi sparati da una corazzata che ingaggia battaglia con un potenziale nemico: la freccia a sinistra rappresenta il primo colpo di avvertimento, sparato a poppa della nave, per privarla del timone e renderla ingovernabile; la freccia a destra rappresenta il secondo colpo di avvertimento, sparato a prua della nave, perché imbarchi acqua; la freccia centrale è l’ultimo colpo sparato, al centro della nave stessa, per farla affondare. D’annunzio completò il logo con il motto “Dare in brocca” o “colpire il bersaglio” e si dice fu proprio il poeta a suggerire a Giuseppe Beretta, 13° discendente della famiglia, prozio di Franco Gussalli Beretta attuale presidente della Fabbrica d’armi Pietro Beretta, di utilizzarlo come marchio per le proprie armi, “così precise da colpire sempre il bersaglio”. Dal 1954 le tre frecce dannunziane sono il logo Beretta. Il Vittoriale degli Italiani è un complesso di edifici, vie, piazze, un teatro all’aperto, giardini e corsi d’acqua eretto dal 1921, a Gardone Riviera sulle rive del lago di Garda da Gabriele d’Annunzio con l’aiuto dell’architetto Gian Carlo Maroni, a memoria della “vita inimitabile” del poeta-soldato e delle imprese degli italiani durante la Prima guerra mondiale.

Minaccia il suicidio con un'arma da fuoco: sequestrata pistola semiautomatica e arrestato il cittadino 40enne. Appennino bolognese: I Carabinieri della Stazione di Vado (BO) hanno arrestato un italiano sulla quarantina, per detenzione di arma clandestina.  Alle ore 15:35 del 25 novembre 2023, i Carabinieri sono stati informati che un italiano sulla quarantina aveva discusso con la moglie per motivi legati alla separazione e voleva suicidarsi con un’arma da fuoco. Raggiunto velocemente a casa dai Carabinieri, l’uomo, collaborativo, ammetteva quanto accaduto e consegnava una valigetta di legno contenente una pistola semiautomatica vera, marca Pietro Beretta, calibro 9 corto. I Carabinieri, dopo aver messo in sicurezza l’arma e accertato che la matricola era abrasa, l’hanno sequestrata unitamente a quattordici proiettili, mentre l’uomo è stato arrestato.
